The crew

On the round Britain cruise, for each of the planned 12 Legs there will be different crew although some have signed on for more than one leg with crew handover generally on Saturday night/Sunday morning. For some legs there will be 3 on board but for much of the time, just 2.


The crew are:
BRIAN was the first to sign up. A retired accountant, he is an acquaintance from Faringdon U3A and has mainly sailed on charter boats in Greece and other warm places.









GUY D (to distinguish him form Guy R), a Contessa 32 friend, joined Alcyone in Hythe and left in Milord Haven. He is a retired investment banker who has been sailing man and boy doing a considerable amount of offshore racing.







TED has sailed in Alcyone many times over the past 2 or 3 years but is now has a Sadler 32. He has been sailing, off and on, for many years racing out of Bridlington and then owning a racing a Dehler 23 before other interests took over.






CHRIS & ALAN, local friends from Oxford, have been sailing for many years and have owned a succession of boats from Mirror dinghy to Centaur to Moody and lastly a Legend 29. Whilst not adventurous sailors they were keen to join Alcyone for at least one leg.





RICHARD & CAROL are sailing friends of many years from the local club. Every year they come for a week or so on Alcyone and this one is more adventurous than most although they have sailed in many parts of the world. They are every experienced sailors, both racing dinghies and small keel boats and cruising. Richard is an IT expert (consultant) and hence will be most useful in sorting out the computer problems on board.





WILLIAM, No 3 son, has been sailing most of his life. As a small baby he enjoyed the delights of a cot on a Nicholson 26 with baths in the plastic bowl. Graduating to a Optimist and Lasers, today he is an RYA senior Instructor/Race Instructor etc and Optimist Coach as well as helming Alcyone when she is racing.








GUY R (to distinguish him form the first Guy, Guy D) is a longstanding colleague and friend from Halcrow as well as sailing companion over many years. He owns a Hunter 27 berthed at Hythe Marina. He joined Alcyone in Corpack on the Caledonian Canal and is due to leave in Arbroath.








MATHEW, No 2 son, has been sailing since a small boy. Initially having been taught by Dad in a Mirror dinghy he started on the Optimist, 420, Laser route. Now he is a leading member of the Alcy1 race Team doing mast and foredeck. Additionally he comes cruising with Dad just to make sure he is alright and help to carry the wine back to the boat. He joined in Sunderland and sailed down the East Coast, including the long leg to Great Yarmouth.





KEITH is an acquaintance from the Cruising Association who lives in Hythe and hence is local to Alcyone. He has sailed for many years, crewing on different boats including several long passages across the Atlantic and Pacific.
