Friday and Saturday 11 & 12 June 2010 Douglas, Isle of Man N540 08.727’ W0040 28.098’

For a variety of reasons, it was decided to stay in Douglas for the crew change on Saturday; uncertainty of wearer with the varied forecasts was one issue, getting ashore in Port St Mary with baggage was another, and the TT Senior Race was also a consideration.

Friday was a Bank Holiday as well as last day of the TT Races; Douglas was deserted with shops all closed (lights off, shuttered and barred!), the fun fair closed and the beer tent shut, until the evening when the beer tent on the promenade opened and partying commenced ‘til the small hours. The lines a queuing motor bikes for the last ferry to Liverpool late in the evening was a sight – how do they control so many partying motor cyclists on board?

Chris & Alan departed Saturday morning by the airport bus and Richard & Carol came in by steam train. A quick tour of Tesco and Alcyone was off out of the inner basin to wait on the breakwater pontoon for an early start to Port Patrick tomorrow. And for once we have a favourable forecast!

Looking at the development of the Alexandra Pier was intriguing to see Halcrow’s efforts recognised in on a plaque.
