Monday 31 May 2010 Fishguard N520 12.12’ W0040 58.40’

At 0630 off from Dale, tucked inside the western end of Milford Haven, bound for Fishguard. No wind but a far tide for most of the passage and good visibility.
A day of interesting navigation. Cutting inside the Smalls, we came through Jack Sound and then round Ramsey Island in both cases carrying considerable tide – off Ramsey Island we hit 11 knots over the ground. The passage through Jack Sound was the most interesting as it is only 1 cable wide between the rocks on either side – not to be undertaken in the wrong conditions.

Now anchored in Fishguard Harbour; it is blisteringly hot with no breeze.

Fishguard was built by the Great Western Railway as a transfer point to passenger ships to America. It is a huge harbour but with no yacht facilities but reasonable shelter.
