Monday 7 June 2010 Douglas, Isle of Man N540 08.727’ W0040 28.098’

Up and away at 0600 hours bound for Douglas. No wind. No sea running. Just flat calm and the sun slowly rising to, ultimately, give a warm sunny day. All as ordered by Chris & Alan!

The passage was very quite with little or no wind and not even ripples on the water for much of the way. The occasional dolphin was spotted but none came to play around the boat. The first large scale wind farm was spotted. Arrived at Douglas 1630 hours and onto the waiting pontoon before being allowed to move into the Inner Harbour whether there are pontoons and facilities.

Entering Douglas brought back memories of a harbour planning study carried in the early 1970s. As I recollect, the report recommended improvements to the main breakwater and an oil berth on the breakwater rather that the then location dried out in the Inner Harbour where any accident would be a bomb in the middle of the town. The Stabit armour units on the breakwater were a clear sign of Halcrow activity.

Also waiting on pontoon is a Contessa 26 “High Tension” whom came across for a chat and to offer us a fresh caught mackerel for supper (which was delicious!). In chatting the usual question arose as to what is Alcyone – she cannot be a Contessa 32 as she does not have the CO moulded in to the bow. However, it had been assumed that Alcyone was a new boat!!
