Tuesday 15 June 2010 Rothesay N550 50.297’ W0050 03.120’

A late start with the crew woken up by Mark Hillman telephoning to say that he had anchored for the night at Alsia Craig and was now drifting under spinnaker up the Firth of Clyde towards Troon. We agreed to meet at Rothesay later in the day.

Set off at 1100 hours for a glorious sail up past Cumbria to Rothesay on the north of the Island of Bute. Light winds all day with sunshine and magnificent views. Mid afternoon we spotted Milly Brown and gave chase (not racing you understand!) but we did overhaul her and were first into Rothersay.

Rothersay is most definitely picturesque from the sea although faded elegance onshore. A visit to the Public Toilets was of course mandatory; they are Victorian Public Conveniences refurbished into their former glory. You are welcomed by a liveried attendant. The fittings are marble and copious. Sitting on an Adamant Deluge throne certainly beats the normal more modern sanitary ware. They most definitely offer luxurious lavatorial experience.
